If you have $4,210, you’re richer than half of the world’s residents.
If you have a net worth of $93,170 U.S., you are wealthier than 90 percent of people around the world. Net worth equals the value of your financial assets plus real assets (like your house) owned by households, minus their debts. 102 million Americans are in the top 10 percent worldwide. I was shocked to learn that I'm in the top 10 percent.
Knowing this makes it easy to be happy with what I have. When I start feeling jealous of my friend who has a swimming pool, or my sister that takes fabulous vacations, I remember that my mortgage is paid off, and I have a little saved in my 401k. Yeah, my house is very humble, I have to pinch every penny, and I'll probably never be able to retire, but I have enough to eat and a roof over my head. My "wants" seem really petty and small when I think about how hard others are struggling just to survive.
I'm also surviving on very little income, but I get by because I don't live beyond my needs. plus I supplement my income by doing survey sites and receipt sites to earn extra money. plus I do some investment sites so my side Hustle income is good enough to help pay bills.
Those numbers certainly put things in perspective and will give me something to think about moving forward.
I just learned something new today.
I have learned something new today.
This is interesting information
From an MSN.com article:
Wealth inequality is nothing new, but it’s reached staggering proportions. An Oxfam report released in January 2020 found that the world’s 2,153 billionaires have more wealth than that of 4.6 billion other people combined — meaning they are wealthier than 60% of the earth’s entire population combined.
Even more troubling is the fact that these billionaires’ wealth increased by nearly 30% during the first six months of the coronavirus pandemic, according to Business Insider. Meanwhile, millions of Americans are out of work and struggling to make ends meet.

I've been looking into the Degrowth economic model and find it really interesting.
This is interesting. Thank you.

Why are you laughing? And don't you think that's a bit hurtful?
How does that number for very different costs of living around the world?

How does that number for very different costs of living around the world?
This is based on raw data from the annual Credit Suisse Global Wealth Report which analyzed the household wealth of 5.2 billion people. I don't believe it's been adjusted by the cost of living, but you're not going to be living large for very long anywhere in the world with $5k… or even $100k. These numbers do, however, "reflect the extreme level of persistent wealth inequality… While the bottom half of adults collectively owns less than 1 percent of total wealth, the richest decile (top 10 percent of adults) owns 85 percent of global wealth, and the top percentile alone accounts for almost half of all household wealth (47 percent)."
