I’m retired and hate it!

Maybe you should get a job.

I'd like to retire and spend time volunteering for causes that are close to my heart

I'm curious as to what you hate about it? If it's that you miss what you were doing have you considered doing it independently?

Per @ Tiki M.

Start my own business at retirement.

In addition, you don't have to start your own business from scratch. You can use a business broker like:

https://www.sunbeltnetwork.com/

To take over an existing business and take it to the next level.

That's great info to have, thanks @Micky H.

Also if you are even considering starting a biz or already have one you can match yourself up with a mentor here: https://www.micromentor.org/

65 is a good time for retirement and also work some but not full time if possible

You should always be planning for your retirement . The way things are going ,social security might not even be available in 50 years let alone 30.

How do you build a good retirement plan?

@Nicole F., start saving early for retirement to take advantage of the power of compounding, but I think it helps to first have an idea of what kind of budget you expect to have in retirement. With that budget, you can then make decisions today on how best to generate the income needed to accommodate that budget. Given the uncertainty with the future, it probably helps to be somewhat conservative with assumptions and estimates to mitigate risk and increase the probability of success.

I wish I had this thought process when I was your age… I’m 33 and I’m just not getting my retirement plans together 😖

You're still young and have plenty of time.

I save every month even if it's 50 bucks. I also put 12 % in my 401k with a company match of 8%.

I can't imagine retiring! Of course, I couldn't imagine living without children (I had my first at 19), and my youngest just joined the army, so I'm adapting. I work in education, and I figure when I'm old enough to retire from that career, I'll become a librarian. I already have the degree, but when I interned I decided it was just too slow paced a job for me right now, but when I'm older I think it'll be perfect. So, my retirement plan is to keep working in a different field. I also plan on volunteering as someone else mentioned as well as traveling and exploring new places. Since my youngest left, I've been thinking more about saving and wondering what are the best ways to save for retirement and just in general. I've found this site very helpful in generating ideas!

Just leaving the corporate world will suffice for me right now lol.

Retired and still trying to " save for retirement". To be meaningful savings need to be invested and money stored looses its value historically (unless it is precious metals. Always need a little in a highly liquid state for emergencies. Most should be in something that beats inflation.

I would enjoy my retirement but would also like to work during this time to continue earning some money and to contribute to society through my work.
