Best, worst, and cheap places to do taxes

OK, jury's out so I need a peanut gallery… I want to hear about the best and worst experiences you have had with tax prep businesses and apps. Tell us your opinion on where to go, and not go when you need tax help. Any tricks or tips on how to make sure you stay on track and on time with taxes and what places and peoples helped you best to stick to your tax goals?

@Jesse - Credit Karma is great because it's easy to use and it's legit 100% free. VITA is great too and it's also 100% free. Turbo Tax is also nice because of how easy it is to use, but it costs money.

I stay on track by putting dates in my to-do calendar and sticking to them. And when you say tax goals, are you referring to the goals you're looking to reach when you get your tax refund?
