Step 1 get a Secured Credit card and pay it off monthly. But never spend over 20% of your available credit. 30% is what many say is the max but lower is better.
Apply for new creditlines at most only 6 times every 2 years.
Pay off any collections accounts.
And realize credit building is a process. You generally need 2 years of good payment history to get approved for better cards and loans.
Furniture store and other open ended creditlines are not very helpful because they don't generally give you a defined credit limit so it doesn't score well in your available credit.
Stuff like that.
After getting a secure credit card use for gas and pay off and use only 1-2%of credit limit to help build credit.
