The first thing I want to do is fund a decent emergency fund and keep it.

A couple years ago, I made a 'surprise money' plan - breaking any extra I get into percents to use for different goals. Emergency fund boosts, car downpayment savings, debt avalanche, a fun money reward, things like that. I even made a different breakup depending on whether it was a 'little extra' or a 'big windfall'. Each year I look at it and see if I want to change the split or add/replace a goal. I use it for anything that isn't my primary job's salary

Unfortunately, with the new tax laws from a few years back, we do not qualify for itemizing our deductions anymore and we have owed $. I plan for this by putting $ away every month to cover what we will owe.

I want to pay extra on my car loan and my student loans. I am a longshoreman under federal worker does anyone know how to get forgiveness for student loans ?

B

Blessing A.

I don't know but one thing I know you go to the website of how you first applied for student loans search for forgiveness or ask or send email to the contact and customer care forore information. I hope this helps.

I want to agree with Jason. And also learn to discipline to cut on expenses. And manage. Emergency fund is another option.

Alexandra W.

Why don't you qualify for itemized deductions? The only way I know is if the standard deduction is more than your itemized would be… so that should make your taxes come out better, not worse

If I owe child support and me and my boyfriend file together will it take from him too

J

Janna J.

To the question about owing child support will it affect his tax status yes it will it will definitely because you owe it in and if you file as a joint couple then that means he owes it also. I learned that the hard way

I don't think you can file jointly unless legally married. So unless you count through common law rules, I don't think you qualify to file jointly. It is called 'married filing jointly', not 'living together filing jointly' after all
