I think that I will start grocery shopping at Aldi again. They have less of a selection, but they have a lot of good prices.

I use the Rakuten app to give me cash back on my purchases.

I love Daily Deals, a discount grocery chain in my area. They sell things that are close to the "best buy" date, so they're dirt cheap. I go there a lot with my mom, and we've never gotten anything that was bad. It's really great for snacks that I can take back to college with me because the snack packs at the regular grocery stores are expensive.

how to find coupons, eg. for Wayfair? The websites I googled are trash.

I have a better selection of groceries at Walmart. I just need to try to be more careful with my impulse purchases when I am in the store.

Shop the sales and only buy what you will actually eat! I found a box of some potatoes that we will never eat due to high salt content… it was a freebie from Kroger so no money was spent but I would have given it away at the time or not gotten it… time at store, space on shelf, moved with us….may not have cost more than a few cents but a waste of money since it's past expiration and I don't know anyone local to give it to that would use it

I get food delivered from Instacart or Safeway. If I go over my budget, I put an item back. If I am in the grocery store, I rarely put an item back. I order my items and I wait a day or two or three days. If I need something else, I take an item out before I pay for my groceries. I am trying to buy just what I need, instead of what I want. I pay $11 for Instacart to deliver my groceries per month. I use to go into the Walmart store and spend $200 in one shopping trip. Since I retired, I just do not have that kind of money anymore. I can shop at Aldi or Food Lion or Publix through Instacart in South Carolina. I shop through Safeway when I visit family. I rarely eat out at restaurants.

I appreciate the information people posted about how they meal plan and save money. Planning ahead and having a structure/routine is helpful to curb impulse spending and reaching financial goals. Plus, learning that you can create the outcomes you want to see by doing what is in your power builds self-esteem :)

I definitely need to learn to meal plan because I am horrible at it!

Elena's idea is the best and what most financial experts recommend when it comes to grocery shopping. Like all things if you do a pantry inventory and fridge/freezer dump once a month and a meal chart, after a while it all becomes routine. Grocery shopping like handling finances require patience and discipline. Also challenge yourself to only shop for staples, i.e. milk and bread and eat from your pantry at least once a year. I do that in February since its a short month and that generally cleans my pantry and any previous foods I have prepared and put in the freezer.
