Can you get charged monthly for interest on a collection account if the collection was originally for a medical bill, which is something that wouldn't have gained interest before?

No they can not …only if it was stated in original contract you signed with medical office that interest will be charged on unpaid amounts then they can charge interest if it's not stated they can not

The collection agency buys the bill from the medical place for a MUCH smaller amount owed, as in pennies on the dollar!!! Then demands that original larger amount from u. And will "work with u" for a smaller amount if u pay if off in full or quickly. But if u read ur bills carefully at the bottom…it clearly stated that they can not take u to court to collect the money…also depending on ur state….the amount falls off ur credit report after so many years, mine which is Idaho is 5 years, they can not collect the money. It is written off at that point and is no longer owed. And ur credit is no longer affected after those years once it is no longer on ur credit report, mine was the 5 years. But for this to happen…for example, the date that u make ur last payment to the original creditor (the medical place) lets say…July 1st 2015 (and in ur state it takes 5 years to get written off and be removed from ur credit report also) no matter if u made the last payment to the original creditor or the collection agency it doesn't matter all that matters is THAT LAST PAYMENT…then on July 1st 2020 its no longer owed and u r free and clear and ur credit score raises. And during those 5 years the moment that u get a mad from the collection agency calling and u make a payment…then guess what….THAT 5 YEARS STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN FROM THAT DAY!!!! So do not make that next payment!!!! If the agency starts calling all the time just say CEASE AND DESIST…this way they HAVE to STOP calling u!!!! They can still send u ALL the bills and letters that they want, but u can stop the calls!!! If they continue to call after u tell them CEASE and DESIST…u can SUE them!!!! But of course u have to give them reasonable amount of time to get u completely off there calling system. Usually 3-5 sometimes up to 10 business days…..but after that….sue the $@!#% outta them!!!!

I truly hope this helps and makes sense. Have a great day and stay safe out there!!! ;)

Thank you ladies for your help! ^^^

I had one more question for anyone that might know. If I never received the original medical bill that was sent to collections, how would I go about contacting the collection agency and asking them to send me a copy of the bill itself?

You can dispute the collection account and they will (should) provide proof that the money is owed. Write them or dispute online, if it is showing on your credit report.

The fact is that that medical bills can be bought out for pennies on the dollar the way they figure it if anything is better than nothing when you are in a position to pay 10% of the bill that's when you talk to the collection agency and tell them you have a tentative amount of money you can pay them or you can pay someone else

Pretty much can guarantee that they will take the 10%
