What suggestions do you have for a young adult who is trying to get their stuff together in life and starting over yet hasn't filed taxes yet? Where do I start?

If you are wanting to build credit (assuming from you posting in the Credit forum), you may try a secured Card. Discover offers this option where you can graduate to an unsecured card after a time if you prove your responsible.
INFORMATIVE RESOURCES
Investopedia and Nerdwallet have understandable articles that break down various financial topics without being too overwhelming. I often use them to give me an idea on what tax forms I might need since the IRS website is often daunting. But they also have articles on credit, investments, and different types of accounts.
There are also various financial podcasts if you like listening to those. Some I've heard about are:
Frugal Friends Podcast
Popcorn Finance
Seedtime
Dave Ramsey also has a podcast, too. And while he is controversial, a lot of the principles he lists in his 7 Baby Steps are a good way to start.
Just know that you can always change, adjust, and combine methods - no one way is correct.
