Many people either aren't informed or don't have the ability to save when they begin working. When did you start saving for retirement? Why?

I started saving for retirement at 20. My first account was a Roth IRA because I wanted to have as much time as possible for savings and compound interest to work. Once I finished college, I added a 403b and 457b to my retirement plans as both are offered by my employer.

I would start with your first job, just open a Roth IRA, if you are not sure in the type of ETF or stock to buy, go to a robo advisor like wealth front or betterment and start investing with 10 dollars a week, and then increase it little by little. Let the magic of compound interest work. Read books on investment, educated yourself cause schools won't help you on this journey.

I started at 19 when I was in the army. I had a guy sell me a life insurance policy through American amicable that was guaranteed 6 percen.t Unheard of now. I am grandfathered in.
