To cope with anxiety I try to exercise consistently, get enough sleep, and only give myself a specific/limited amount of time to worry about a problem.

There are some really good videos on YouTube on how to deal with anxiety. I've also heard physical exercises dealing with your senses helps, such as putting an ice cube in your mouth. Anything to refocus yourself.

There are quite a few coping methods one can use. Some include:

  • deep breathing / five chamber breath
  • Tracing one's finger (or anything else that can help ground oneself in the present)
  • Journaling
  • Soaking up sunshine / getting outside
  • Physical activity (personally I prefer yoga or Tai chi)

Some physical things you can use that often helps with anxiety or has a calming effect are:

  • Lavender scents
  • Tea (in large quantities can provide an amino acid called L-Theanine which, although has not had extensive research, is a supplement that claims to come without drowsing. I use l-theanine myself, and do you believe that it is helpful.)

  • I have heard claims that Epsom salt soaks/bathes help relax muscles (which may in turn help lessen anxiety).

I've fought against anxiety for so long and now feel as though I have quite the control of anxiety vs. it controlling me! Focused breathing is one of my most effective methods, took me a long time to believe it would work and to commit to making progress but it's a real game changer. Another thing that has helped me keep anxiety under control is focusing on my confidence, all those self help books and challenges brought my confidence up and simultaneously my confidence that anxiety is not supreme and I'm very capable of managing it. Breathe In, breathe out, be confident. You'll figure out more tricks and ways to conquer from there!
