During the last recession, I was not working and could not find work. My husband's paycheck did not cover all of our expenses, so we relied on credit cards. We had between us 6 credit cards and we maxed them out. At the end, we owed $30,000. It ruined our credit. Fast forward to 2015, I found a great paying job at a law firm and reached out to the credit card companies and set up payment plans. We were able to get out of debt in 2018. Now, we are trying to save up money and buy either a coop/condo or a single family home.

Yes, Melody, it is very hard to stay out of debt during this pandemic. Right now we are trying to stay away from credit card debt and keep our budget to the bare minimum. We are also looking into government programs, unemployment, short-term relief programs. There are public and private programs out there that are willing to help out those affected by the pandemic. It is just a matter of doing research and looking up the requirements to see if we qualify.
